RIP: Patrick Stewart and his character Captain Picard
Sir Patrick Stewart (who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation) passed away three days later, on October 28, 2026, at age 86 following a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
I know most of you already know about his recent passing but I came across this video which was actually a nice tribute to a character I greatly admired, and played by a great actor.
In case that reddit thread is ever deleted or the video is removed, etc. I’ll include a copy of it here. But the reddit thread is better (if it’s still working when you see this) because of all the comments.
“Sir Patrick Stewart is widely regarded as warm, generous, humble, and deeply compassionate, both by his industry peers and the public. While he has spoken openly about his own personal growth over the decades, his reputation is defined by active philanthropy, mentorship, and a self-deprecating sense of humor.”
“Stewart’s colleagues consistently describe him as a generous scene partner and a supportive leader.”
“Despite his knighthood and Shakespearean background, Stewart is celebrated for lacking pretense. He frequently takes self-parodying comedic roles (such as in Extras, American Dad!, and Family Guy) and maintains a warm, accessible presence. His visible, affectionate friendship with Sir Ian McKellen and his playful social media presence have further cemented his image as a deeply kind and genuine figure.”
